The inspection of lifts in the Community of Valencia follows a specific protocol designed by the Valencian authorities, which harmonises the control of operations and the safety of lifts throughout the Valencian territory.

This protocol takes into account when the lifts were installed and adapts the inspection regulation to each lift on the territory.

The inspection of lifts is always compulsory for each of them under different terms. It is practically identical for all types of lifts, although Royal Decree 57/2005 raised the safety of lifts manufactured since that year. There is therefore a set of minimum conditions which they all have to comply with, guaranteeing higher safety levels.

When does the lift inspection have to be carried out?

The lifts inspection regulation in the Community of Valencia states that all lifts will be subject to minimum periodic inspections, regardless of their date of installation, as follows:

-Every two years for lifts installed in industrial and public buildings.

-Every four years in the case of lifts installed in buildings with over twenty dwellings or over four floors.

-Every six years in lifts that do not fit into the two previous options.

Inspection elements

When carrying out the inspection of lifts in the community of Valencia, the technicians have to analyse multiple aspects of operations to issue a verdict.

Some of the items that must be checked include the physical state and solidity of the machine, the state of the suspension and traction devices, the brake mechanisms, the protection against overspeed of the cabin, the elastic bumpers and shock absorbers, the cabin and access to it, electrical safety circuits, signalling or manoeuvres that affect safety, the lift shaft, the machine room or signalling.

Lift inspection results

Once the inspection is done, the technician will issue a certificate with a favourable result when everything is in order, or unfavourable if a series of defects have been found. Defects are described as installation deviations from regulatory conditions. There are different types.

Minor defects are those that are not serious and have to be corrected by the time of the next periodic inspection. The serious ones are those that do not represent an immediate danger but may become so in case of failure of the installation or may even damage the installation.

The maximum period for rectification is six months. Finally, very serious defects are those that represent an imminent risk to people or that can cause damage to the installation, which makes it necessary to put the installation out of service until repair is carried out.
